Biography
Country music singer and songwriter Rodney Atkins â born in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 28, 1969. His musical journey began while attending college at the Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee where he met several songwriters who inspired him to do the same. Rodney Atkins then moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the mid-1990s in the hopes of landing a record deal. His dream came true in 1996 when he signed to Curb Records the very same week they signed young country singer LeAnn Rimes. After releasing his 1997 debut single âIn a Heartbeatâ â which reached Number 74 on the Billboard Country Singles chart â he expressed his dissatisfaction with the material he had been recording and his self-titled debut albumâs release was cancelled as he went back into the studio to record the album he wanted to make. His gamble paid off and his official debut album Honesty (2003) included two Top 40 hits â âSing Alongâ and âMy Old Manâ â while the single âHonesty (Write Me a List)â hit Number 4. The Honesty album hit Number 50 and paved the way for his future successes. His sophomore album, If Youâre Going Through Hell, reached Number 1 thanks to the massively successful singles pulled from the album: âIf Youâre Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)â, âWatching Youâ, âThese Are My Peopleâ, and âCleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy)â. Fresh from this enormous success, Rodney Atkins returned in 2009 with the single âItâs Americaâ which was lifted from the album of the same name. The album hit Number 3 while the single was another Number 1 single for him. The success continued with the 2011 album Take a Back Road (Number 3) and the title track, which was a Number 1 hit single for him. Rodney Atkinsâ career began to show signs of slowing when his 2014 single âEat Sleep Love You Repeatâ failed to break the Top 40 and his Greatest Hits release â which included his popular Number 1 singles â only reached Number 28. In 2019, he released the album Caught Up in the Country, his first studio album in 8 years. The albumâs title track â featuring the Fisk Jubilee Singers â was released as a single and reached Number 20 while the album hit Number 28. After two years of silence, Rodney Atkins returned with the single âA Little Good Newsâ (2021).
