David Letellier, known professionally as Kangding Ray, is a French musician, DJ, and producer born in 1978. He graduated from the Ãcole nationale supérieure d'architecture de Bretagne before moving to Berlin in 2001, where he began producing his own music. His first album, Stabil, was released in 2006 under the pseudonym Kangding Ray, a name inspired by the Chinese city of Kangding. David Letellier's early influences included My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, and DJ Shadow. He signed with labels Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts for his initial releases, including Automne Fold (2008) and Or (2011). Notable collaborations include Pruitt Igoe (2010), a project with Alva Noto and Ben Frost. In 2019, he launched his own label, ara, releasing Predawn Qualia EP. His discography also includes Solens Arc (2014), Cory Arcane (2015), Hyper Opal Mantis (2017), Ultrachroma (2022) and Zero (2024). He also composed the scores for the films Wann kommst du meine Wunden küssen? and SirÄt.
