Biography

Bon on June 11th, 1985 in Vancouver, British Columbia, multi-talented Canadian singer, songwriter, musician and "Call Me Maybe" hit-maker Josh Ramsay rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of Canada's Marianas Trench, releasing five studios with the pop-rock group over nearly two decades. He grew up in a musical family – his mum was a singing teacher and his dad owned a recording studio – and after cutting his teeth in a band with his sister, Sara Ramsay, joined forces with high school friend Matt Webb, along with bandmates Ian Casselman and Mike Ayley, to form Marianas Trench in 2001. He later began building up a repertoire of songwriting and production work, completing projects for an assortment of artists including Carly Rae Jepsen, Nickelback, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Simple Plan. His big break came in 2008 with "Sour Candy", co-writing and producing the song for Carly Rae Jepsen while also providing vocals. The track helped to pave the way for a string of further successes, notably 2011's "Hush" featuring Emily Osment – which he took to Number 90 on the Canadian Hot 100 – a guest spot on "Hit Me Up" by Danny Fernandes, also featuring Belly, which was certified platinum in Canada, and most importantly, the 2012 smash-hit single he co-wrote and produced with Carly Rae Jepsen, "Call Me Maybe", which was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards. That same year, Marianas Trench also picked up the 2013 Juno Award for Group of the Year, releasing their fourth album, Astoria, in 2015, and their fifth, Phantoms, in 2019. In 2022, Josh Ramsay released his first solo album, The Josh Ramsay Show, which features a lineup of Canadian artists including Ria Mae, Tyler Shaw, Sara Ramsay, Serena Ryder, DJ Sharkpocalypse, Fefe Dobson, Fionn, Dallas Smith, and Chad Kroeger.
