Biography

Josh Gabriel, born in the United States, is an American electronic music DJ and producer whose career began in the late 1980s while studying at the Institute of Sonology in The Hague. He mastered early digital instruments such as the DX7 and TX816 and developed software to control samples on an Akai S900, laying the groundwork for his later hardware project Mixman. Gabriel’s breakthrough came with the 2001 single "Wave 3", followed by "Alive" in 2005 and "Summit" in 2007, establishing him in the dance music scene. In 2001 he formed the duo Gabriel & Dresden with Dave Dresden, releasing the self‑titled album Gabriel & Dresden in 2006 and achieving sixteen Billboard Dance Chart Number 1 hits, including "Tracking Treasure Down" and "Dangerous Power"; the pair won the IDMA “America’s Best DJ” award in 2007 and 2008. After a brief solo period in 2008, Gabriel released the studio album Eight and founded the label Different Pieces. The duo reunited in 2010, signed with Armada Music, and produced singles such as "Play it Back" and "Rise Up" in 2014. Their collaborative work continued into the 2020s, with appearances at major festivals worldwide, cementing Gabriel’s influence in electronic music.
