Biography
John Foxx and the Maths is a British electronic music group founded in 2009 by John Foxx (real name Dennis Leigh), former lead singer of the band Ultravox, in collaboration with producer Benge (Ben Edwards), renowned for his studio equipped with analog synthesizers. The project was born after Foxx and Benge began working together in the latter's London studio, with the aim of creating music using only analog instruments. The band released their debut album Interplay in 2011 on Metamatic Records, hailed for its blend of minimalist synthpop and retro-futuristic textures. The album features contributions from singer Mira Aroyo (Ladytron) and violinist and arranger Serafina Steer. The same year saw the release of The Shape of Things, a second album consisting mainly of demos and experiments from the same recording sessions. In 2012, Evidence featured new tracks and collaborations with Gazelle Twin, Tara Busch, The Soft Moon and Matthew Dear. The following year, the live album Rhapsody included the participation of singer Hannah Peel, also featured a few years later on the studio album Howl, released in 2020 and also featuring guitarist Robin Simon, former member of Ultravox and Magazine.
