Biography

Jodeci, an American R&B quartet consisting of DeVanté Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci Hailey, and JoJo Hailey, was formed in 1988 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The group initially began as a duo with DeVanté Swing and JoJo Hailey before expanding to include their respective brothers. After signing with Uptown Records in 1990, Jodeci released their debut album Forever My Lady in 1991, which featured the Billboard R&B Number 1 hit singles "Forever My Lady", "Stay" and "Come and Talk to Me". The group's success continued with subsequent albums Diary of a Mad Band (1993), which included hits like "Cry for You" and "Feenin'", and The Show. The After Party. The Hotel (1995), featuring "Freek'n You", "Love U 4 Life", and "Get On Up". Jodeci incorporated various musical styles into their R&B sound, including hip-hop soul, gospel, and new jack swing. Each of these albums attained platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 1996, the group announced a hiatus but continued to work on music together. During this period, K-Ci & JoJo released five albums as a duo until Jodeci reunited in 2015 for their fourth studio album The Past, the Present, the Future. Complex magazine ranked Jodeci first on their "1990s Male R&B Group Pyramid of Excellence" list in 2014.
