Biography

Blackstreet are an American R&B and hip-hop group formed in New York in 1991 by Teddy 'Street' Riley and Chauncey 'Black' Hannibal with Dave Hollister and Lenny Harold. Their eponymous 1994 album reached number seven on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and number 52 on the Billboard 200 and 'Another Level' (1996) topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and went to number three on the 200. The track 'No Diggety' from that release, featuring Dr. Dre, topped both the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and the Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By a Duo Or Group With Vocal. Their 1999 album 'Finally' peaked at number four on the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and 'Level II' (2003) went to number eight. The single 'Before I Let You Go' (1994) went to number two and they featured on Janet's 'I Get Lonely' (1998) which went to number one. Black fell afoul of the law in the '90s and a long dispute with Riley led to the break-up of the group. Contention has continued as various players have joined and left since 1999 and the current line-up features Black, Levi Little, Mark Middleton and Eric Williams.
