Biography

R&B singer-turned-actor Christopher Williams enjoyed chart success at the turn of the 1990s. Born Christopher Lawrence Williams in New York's Bronx district on August 22, 1967, this singer with a powerful voice and nephew of Ella Fitzgerald made a name for himself in 1989 with his first hit "Talk to Myself " (#4 R&B and #49 Billboard Hot 100), from the album Adventures in Paradise (#23 soul/R&B), recorded for Geffen Records. The latter unveiled two other chart-topping tracks, "Promises, Promises" (#7 R&B) and "One Girl" (#31 R&B). In 1991, the singer was cast as an actor in the film New Jack City, popularizing the New Jack Swing style, with the closing credits including the iconic track "I'm Dreamin'", which reached No. 1 on the R&B charts and No. 89 on the Billboard Hot 100. Christopher Williams followed this up with the album Changes (1992) and its hits "All I See" (#19 R&B) and "Every Little Thing U Do" (#7 R&B), while 1995's Not a Perfect Man was less well received, with two minor hits, "Dance 4 Me" and "If You Say". The artist, who then favors film, TV and theater roles, records two more albums, Real Men I Do (2001) and When I Was Everything (2005). In 2022, he appeared in the musical New Jack City: Live on Stage.
