Jim Glover and Jean Ray formed the American folk rock duo Jim Glover & Jean Ray after marrying in 1963; the pair met while performing at Café Raffio in Greenwich Village and quickly gained a local following. Their first recorded appearance was on the 1963 compilation Jack Linkletter Presents a Folk Festival, and they signed with Philips in 1965, releasing the selfâtitled album that featured compositions by Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Buffy SainteâMarie and Lead Belly. In 1966 they issued Changes on Verve Folkways, with the title track written by Phil Ochs and additional songs by Eric Andersen, David Blue, Bob Dylan and the duo themselves; the single "Changes" / "Strangers in a Strange Land" followed. Their third album, People World (Verve Forecast, 1968), introduced a more psychedelic sound and produced the charting single "People World" which reached Number 94 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. After a brief reunion in 1976 for a Phil Ochs memorial, Jim Glover & Jean Ray disbanded following their divorce in 1969, and Jean Ray died on 19 August 2007. Their work has been cited as an influence on later folkârock narratives, and their 2004 release Changes / People World revived interest in their catalog.
