Biography
Mellow Candle was an Irish progressive folk rock band formed in 1968, featuring founding members Clodagh Simonds, Alison Bools, and Maria White. The group released their single, "Feeling High / Tea With the Sun", in August 1968. After a brief hiatus and lineup changes, including the addition of Dave Williams, Frank Boylan, and William Murray, they released their album Swaddling Songs in 1972. Despite initial commercial failure, Swaddling Songs has since received critical acclaim and is highly collectible. The band disbanded in 1973. In 1996, a collection of demos and sessions for the album, titled The Virgin Prophet, was released. The album's 50th anniversary was commemorated in 2022 with the RTÃ radio documentary Swaddling Songs at 50.
