Biography

Jeffrey Lael Simmons was an American musician known for his contributions to rock music. His career began with local group Blues Interchange, which later changed its name to Easy Chair and released a self-financed album in 1968. During a sound check for The Mothers of Invention at the Seattle Center Arena, Simmons caught the attention of Frank Zappa, who invited the band to Los Angeles. After Easy Chair disbanded, Simmons stayed in LA and released two solo albums: The Original Soundtrack from Naked Angels (1969) and Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up (1969). He joined The Mothers of Invention in 1970, contributing to albums such as Chunga's Revenge (1970), Waka/Jawaka (1972), and Roxy & Elsewhere (1974). Simmons left the band in early 1971 but returned occasionally until 1974.
