Biography

James Grear & Company, or James Grear & Co. is a contemporary gospel group formed in 1998 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by singer James Grear. Born in Gary, Indiana, on June 5, 1962, Grear followed in his parents' religious footsteps, joining The Church of God in Christ. Attracted to gospel music from an early age, he formed his own group in 1998, releasing his debut album for Born Again Records that same year, Don't Give Up, which reached No. 8 in the specialized gospel charts. The same label released The Next Level in 2000 and What Will Your Life Say in 2001, which reached No. 14. In 2004, the band collaborated with R&B trio Next on A Special Place, released by Liquid 8 Records at No. 18. In 2009 follows Don't Waste Another Day for Habakkuk Music, then in 2015 the single "It's My Season" for EchoPark JDI Entertainment. Back in 2023 with the track "I Wanna Say Thank You", in collaboration with Maurette Brown Clark, James Grear & Company surround themselves with other vocalists such as LaKisha Clark Burgess, San Franklin, Paris Bennett, Kim Burrell, David Hurst and Rachel Hurst for the album The Prelude. In 2024, the track "Do It Again", featuring Darrel Walls, reached number 27 in the Gospel Airplay charts.
