Shyamalal Babu Rai (performing as Indeevar; January 1, 1924 â February 27, 1997) was an Indian Hindi film lyricist from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. He moved to Mumbai to pursue a professional career, attaining initial success with the film Malhar (1951), where he wrote the song âBade Armano Se Rakkha Hai Balam Teri Kasamâ, set to music by Roshan. Throughout a career spanning four decades, Indeevar authored over 1,000 songs for more than 300 films. Major credits include âTumse Badhkar Duniya Maiâ from the film Kaamchor and âYe Bandhan To Pyar Kaâ from Karan Arjun (1995). Indeevar also collaborated with the pop duo Nazia Hassan and Zohaib Hassan, writing the tracks âAap Jaisa Koiâ and âBoom Boomâ. In 1976, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for the song âDil Aaisa Kisi Ne Mera Todaâ from the film Amanush. He died in Mumbai on February 27, 1997.
