Ikara Colt was formed in London in 1999 by four art studentsâJon Ball on bass, Claire Ingram on guitar, Dominic Young on drums, and Paul Resende on vocals. The group first attracted local attention with the 2001 singles "Sink Venice" and "One Note" before releasing the Rudd EP on 11â¯Februaryâ¯2002, followed by the debut album Chat And Business on 4â¯Marchâ¯2002; both were distributed through Fantastic Plastic Records and later reâissued by Epitaph in the United States in 2003. In summer 2003 the band issued the Basic Instructions EP, and after the departure of Jon Ball, Tracy Bellaries joined on bass. The second and final studio album, Modern Apprentice, was released on 7â¯Juneâ¯2004, accompanied by singles such as "Wanna Be That Way", "Wake In The City", and "Modern Feeling". The group completed extensive touring across the UK and the US, gaining recognition for their punkârockâarty sound and for being part of the earlyâ2000s 'Scene With No Name' movement highlighted by NME; they were compared to The Fall, Sonic Youth, and Hüskerâ¯Dü. After a concluding tour, the band dissolved in early 2005, closing a fiveâyear career that left a modest legacy within the UK alternative rock scene.
