Biography

Ian William Craig, born in 1980 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is a musician known for his experimental compositions. Classically trained in vocal performance, Craig utilizes modified tape reels to distort his recorded voice, creating a unique sonic landscape. His breakthrough came with the release of A Turn of Breath (2014) on Recital Records. In 2016, Craig released Centres, the inaugural album on FatCat's relaunched 130701 record label, which received universal acclaim and was described by Rolling Stone as the most exciting experimental composer of 2016. Notable albums include Cradle for the Wanting (2015), Zugzwang for Fostex (2016), Slow Vessels (2017), and Red Sun Through Smoke (2020). Craig's work has been compared to artists such as William Basinski, Grouper, and Anohni. He is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
