Biography

Ruins, a Japanese experimental rock duo, was formed in 1985 and consisted of drummer/vocalist Tatsuya Yoshida and various bassists. The group's initial intention was to be a power trio, but the guitarist never appeared for their first rehearsal. Their music blended elements of progressive rock, jazz fusion, and noise rock. Ruins' debut EP, Ruins, was released in 1986, followed by their first full-length album, Ruins II in 1987. Subsequent albums include Ruins III (1988), Burning Stone (1992), and Tzomborgha (2002). Throughout their career, Ruins collaborated with prominent musicians like Derek Bailey and Keiji Haino. Bassist Hisashi Sasaki left the band in 2004, leading Yoshida to perform solo under the name Ruins-alone. In 2016, Ryuichi Masuda rejoined the band for live performances.
