Biography
Highland was formed in Germany in 1999 by vocalist Nicole Heiland, and rappers Dean âDirtyâDâ Burke and Patrice âLady Scarâ Gansau, with songwriting and production handled by Mike Michaels, Mark âMMâ Dollar, and Mark Tabak. Their debut single "Bella Stella" was released in late 1999, reaching the topâ10 in Germany and Austria and number 12 in Switzerland, and was followed by the album Bella Stella in 2000, which peaked at number 52 in Germany and 87 in Switzerland. Subsequent singles "Se Tu Vuoi" and "Solo Tu" entered the German charts at positions 20 and 47 respectively, while "Veni Vidi Vici" peaked at 59 in Germany. In 2001 Highland released "Magic Fortuna", a Eurodance track based on Carl Orffâs O Fortuna, which climbed to number 33 in Germany. After a brief hiatus, the group returned in 2008 with the album Dimmi Perché, featuring remastered hits without rap verses and eight new tracks, and was released through Eastwest Records. Highlandâs work is noted for blending Italian and Latin lyrics with English rap over dance beats, achieving chart success across Germanâspeaking markets and contributing to the early 2000s European dance scene.
