Heathen, an American thrash metal band from San Francisco, was founded in late 1984 by Lee Altus and Carl Sacco. Their debut demo Pray for Death in 1986 secured a deal with Combat Records. The first album, Breaking the Silence, produced by Ronnie Montrose, was released in 1987 and featured the single "Set Me Free", which gained significant airplay on MTV. In 1991, they released their second album, Victims of Deception, via Roadrunner Records. Despite critical acclaim, Heathen disbanded in 1993 due to financial struggles and lineup changes. The band reunited in 2001 and continued releasing albums, including The Evolution of Chaos in 2009 and Empire of the Blind in 2020.
