Biography
Sodom is a trash metal band from Germany founded in 1981. The founding members are Tom Angelripper, bass and vocals, Chris Witchhunter, drums, and Aggressor, guitar. The debut album Obsessed by Cruelty was released in 1986, and it was not until 1989 that Sodom made their first chart entry in Germany with their third album Agent Orange, which reached number 36. Sodom's musical career took off in the 1990s. The albums Tapping the Vein (1992), Get What You Deserve (1994) and Masquerade in Blood (1995) also made it into the German album charts. In the 2000s, things became a little quieter around Sodom. It wasn't until 2010, with the album In War and Pieces, that Sodom returned to their earlier successes. With the album Epitome of Torture in 2013, the rockers achieved their highest chart position in Germany to date at number 32. Sodom were able to top this success in 2016 with their next album, Decision Day, which reached number 7 in Germany. It was not until 2020 that Sodom released another longplayer, Genesis XIX. The album climbed to number 10 in the German charts. To mark the band's 40th anniversary, Sodom released the best-of album 40 Years at War - The Greatest Hell of Sodom in 2022. The compilation of the greatest hits makes it to number 6 in the German album charts. In 2023, the EP 1982 is released. At the end of June 2025, Sodom release their 17th studio album, The Arsonist.
