Biography

Coroner, a Swiss thrash metal band formed in Zürich in 1983, originally consisted of Pete Attinger on vocals, Phil Puzctai on bass, and Tommy Ritter on guitars. The band's lineup solidified in 1985 with Ron Broder on bass and lead vocals, Tommy Vetterli on guitars, and Marky Edelmann on drums. Coroner's career began with the release of their demo Death Cult in 1986. Their debut album, R.I.P., was released in 1987. The band quickly evolved from a speed metal sound to a more technical style, evident in albums like Punishment for Decadence (1988) and No More Color (1989), which showcased intricate guitar work and complex time signatures. Notable songs from this period include "Skeleton on Your Shoulder" and "Last Entertainment". Coroner's later albums, Mental Vortex (1991) and Grin (1993), continued to explore technical and industrial sounds. The band disbanded in 1996 but reunited in 2010 with Broder, Tommy Vetterli aka Tommy T. Baron (guitar), and Marky Edelmann, replaced in 2014 by Diego Rapacchietti. This line-up continued to tour internationally and recorded their seventh full-length, Dissonance Theory, released on October 2025.
