Biography

Hans Sven Poulsen (born Bruce Gordon Poulsen, March 7, 1945 – February 17, 2023) was an Australian soft rock, folk, and country singer-songwriter and musician from Melbourne. He performed on mandolin, autoharp, and bouzouki. Poulsen established the group Rimfires in 1961 and the 18th Century Quartet in 1965.Launching a solo career in 1967, Poulsen wrote the song “It's Only a Matter of Time”, which reached Number 1 in Australia in 1969. His own discography featured the hits “Boom Sha La La Lo” and “There's a Light Across the Valley” (1970). He composed “Rose Coloured Glasses” for John Farnham. Between 1972 and 1976, Poulsen resided at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland, recording the albums What a Way to Look at Life, It Can't Be Described in Words, and Universal Hands. After recovering from cancer and a stroke, he worked as a music therapist. Poulsen died in 2023.
