Collette Roberts, known mononymously as Collette, was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1968. She began her career as a fashion model before transitioning into music. In 1988, she started working with Guy Gross in Sydney to co-write material for her solo career. Her breakthrough came with the release of "Ring My Bell", a cover version of Anita Ward's hit, which reached Number 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart and Number 4 in New Zealand in February 1989. The single was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). She released two more singles that year, "All I Wanna Do Is Dance" and "That's What I Like About You", both of which charted in the ARIA Singles Chart top 40. These singles were included on her debut album, Raze The Roof, released in October 1989. Her second album, Attitude, was produced by Mark S. Berry and released in April 1991. Despite a change in image and sound, the album and its singles did not achieve significant commercial success. She retired from her music career in 1995 to focus on her work as a stylist and make-up artist. In November 2019, a 30th anniversary edition of Raze The Roof was made available digitally and on streaming platforms.
