Biography

Gualberto García Pérez is a Spanish musician, composer, and sitar player born on July 3, 1945, in Seville. He performed in the rock group Los Murciélagos at age 17 before co-founding the psychedelic rock ensemble Smash in 1968. The group incorporated flamenco elements into rock music. Following the dissolution of Smash, García Pérez moved to the United States to study music and composed the rock opera Behind the Stars. He returned to Spain in 1974 and released the solo albums A la vida y al dolor (1975) and Vericuetos (1976). He performed at the Canet Rock festival in 1975. During the 1980s and 1990s, he collaborated with artists including Camarón de la Isla and Ricardo Miño. In 1998, he recorded the album Con-trastes with Miño, which received the Andalusia Music Award in 2000. García Pérez composed music for television and cinema from his personal studio.
