Enrique Morente Cotelo, born on December 25, 1942, in Granada, Spain, was a flamenco singer known for his innovative approach to traditional flamenco music. He began singing as a child and learned the art from family gatherings and local figures like Cobitos and Aurelio Sellés. In his teens, Morente moved to Madrid to start his professional career, performing at peñas flamencas and signing with the Ballet de Marienma in 1964. He released Cante flamenca (1967) with guitarist Félix de Utrera, and Homenaje flamenco a Miguel Hernández (1971). Throughout the 1970s and beyond, Morente released several albums, often collaborating with notable poets and musicians. His later works like Misa flamenca (1991) and Omega (1996) showcased his experimental side while maintaining his roots in traditional flamenco. Morente passed away on December 13, 2010.
