Brigitte Goetz, known professionally as Gitti Götz, was born on January 17, 1958, in Obernburg am Main, Germany. She is a singer best known as one half of the German folk-pop duo Gitti & Erika. Alongside her sister Erika Bruhn and their sibling Karoline, she received early training in guitar and accordion. The three sisters initially performed as the group Flirt. In 1972, Gitti and Erika were discovered by Dieter Thomas Heck at a radio competition and subsequently signed with Polydor Records in 1973, releasing early singles such as "Deinetwegen â meinetwegen," "Glück und Glas," "Penny Jodelboy," and "Morgenstern und Abendglocken." Their breakthrough came in 1977 with the title track for the TV series Heidi, which sold over 500,000 copies and became a classic of German popular music. The duo received the Hermann-Löns-Medaille in 1979 for their contributions to folk music.
