David Eugene Summers, known as Gene Summers and born on January 3, 1939 in Dallas, Texas, was an American singer and songwriter known for his contributions to rock 'n' roll and rockabilly music. He began his career with the group The Rebels, playing a key role in the early development of rockabilly. In 1964, Summers achieved significant success with "Alabama Shake" and "Big Blue Diamonds". In 2006, his album School of Rock 'n Roll was selected by Bob Solly and Record Collector Magazine as one of the 100 greatest rock records. Summers celebrated his 50th anniversary as an artist with the release of Reminisce Café in 2008. He toured extensively throughout Europe, including performances at the 1st Festival International de Rockabilly-Rock 'n' Roll in 1981. Summers passed away on February 17, 2021.
