Biography
Frances Langford was an American singer and actress who was born as Julia Frances Langford in 1913. She originally trained as an opera singer before a medical procedure altered her vocal range to a contralto, leading her to adopt a big band style. Langford achieved professional recognition during the Golden Age of Radio and made a film debut in Every Night at Eight (1935), where she introduced the song âI'm in the Mood for Loveâ. She was famous for entertaining troops on USO tours during World War II, earning the nickname âGI Nightingaleâ. Her film appearances include Born to Dance (1936) and Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), the latter featuring her performance of the track âOver Thereâ. Between 1946 and 1951, she starred in the radio comedy The Bickersons. For her contributions to the entertainment industry, she received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She died in 2005.
