Biography
Tony Martin, born Alvin Morris on December 25, 1913, in San Francisco, California, was a singer of popular music and actor. He formed his first band, the Red Peppers, during high school and adopted the stage name Tony Martin upon moving to Hollywood. He made several hit records for Decca between 1938 and 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy and Army Air Forces during World War II. Post-war, Tony Martin signed with Mercury Records and later RCA Victor. He released hits like "To Each His Own" (1946) and "Stranger in Paradise" (1954). In 1958, he became a top-paid performer in Las Vegas at the Desert Inn. Martin's career spanned over seven decades, including collaborations with Motown Records in the mid-1960s. He passed away on July 27, 2012, at age 98.
