Biography

George Richard Chamberlain, born on 31 March 1934 in Los Angeles, California, was an American actor and singer known professionally as Richard Chamberlain. He began his career in theatre after initially studying art at Pomona College. His first significant role came in the medical television series Dr. Kildare, which aired from 1961 to 1965. This role propelled him to stardom and led to a brief but notable singing career, with singles such as "Theme From Dr. Kildare (Three Stars Will Shine Tonight)" reaching number 10 on the US charts in 1962 and "All I Have to Do Is Dream" peaking at number 14 in 1963. His acting career spanned decades, with notable roles in films like Petulia (1968) and television series such as Shogun (1980), for which he won a Golden Globe Award. He also starred in the miniseries The Thorn Birds (1983), earning another Golden Globe for his performance. His final film role was in Finding Julia (2019). He passed away on 29 March 2025, just two days before his 91st birthday.
