Biography
Forgemasters were a British electronic music trio from Sheffield that formed in the late 1980s. The ensemble consisted of the musicians Robert Gordon, Winston Hazel, and Sean Maher and are famous for the single âTrack with No Nameâ (1989), which served as the inaugural release for Warp Records and helped define the bleep techno genre. The members were colleagues at the FON record shop and studio, where Gordon served as an engineer and co-founded the Warp label. Their discography includes the EPs The Black Steel E.P. (1991) and Quabala EP (1992). Their work has appeared on compilation recordings including Pioneers of the Hypnotic Groove (1991) and Warp 10+2: Classics 89â92 (1999). The ensemble took their name from the local engineering firm Sheffield Forgemasters.
