Festland, a German pop band from Essen, was formed in 2004 by Joachim Schäfer, Dietmar Feldmann, and Thomas Geier. Prior to Festland, Joachim Schäfer and Thomas Geier collaborated under the name Freischwimmer and organized events in Essen as Radio Gruga. The group released a vinyl EP titled Welt verbrennt in 2006, followed by their first full-length album, An euren Fenstern wachsen Blumen, on Alfred Hilsbergâs label Zickzack Records. In 2010, Festland released the album Welt verbrennt, which was named best pop album of the year by Die Zeit. The band performed internationally, including at events organized by the Goethe-Institut in Paris and Kazakhstan, as well as by the Auswärtiges Amt in Kyrgyzstan. In 2014, Festland began performing acoustic sets, leading to the release of Doch die Winde wehn... in 2016.
