Fast Crew was a New Zealand hip hop group formed in Auckland in 1999. The group consisted of Dane Rumble (aka Kid Deft), Jeremy Kent-Johnston (aka Jerome Fortune), Brad Devcich (aka Diablo), Gemma Copas and Josh Thorne (DJ Alias). Their first single "Mr Radio" was released in 2002, gaining significant airplay. In May 2003, Fast Crew released the single "I Got", which spent twenty-three weeks on the New Zealand Top 40 Singles Chart and achieved gold status. This success led to opening acts for international artists such as Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott. Fast Crew's debut album Set The Record Straight was released in December 2004 and achieved gold status within a week, peaking at number 11 on the New Zealand charts. Notable singles from this album include "It's The Incredible" (November 2005) and "Suburbia Streets" (March 2005), which reached number 10 in New Zealand. The group toured extensively, including performances at the Big Day Out festivals. Fast Crew received three nominations at the 2006 Australasian Urban Music Awards for Best Hip Hop Single, Best Hip Hop Album, and Best Hip Hop Group. After completing their second album Truth Lies & Red Tape, the band played their last concert in late 2008, marking a mutual decision to split.
