Tiro de Gracia is a Chilean hip-hop group that emerged in the early 1990s. Founded by Juan Sativo, Lenwa Dura, ExplÃcito, and DJ Borna, they quickly became influential in the Latin American hip-hop scene. Their debut live performance took place in April 1993 in Lo Prado. Initially, they performed with recorded tracks mixed by DJ Raff of La Pozze Latina. Their early works, "Homosapiens" and "Arma Calibrada," included politically charged themes. These independent productions gained them a local following and media attention. In 1996, they caught the eye of television director Juan Sebastián DomÃnguez, which led to the recording of their professional demo. This recording garnered radio play and caught the attention of EMI, leading to a contract and the production of their first full-length album. In 1997, Tiro de Gracia released their studio debut Ser Hümano!!, which became a landmark album in Chilean hip-hop. Featuring hits like "El Juego Verdadero," "Viaje Sin Rumbo," and "Chupacabras," the album achieved platinum status, selling over 80,000 copies. The LP is considered one of the best in Chilean music history and played a crucial role in popularizing hip-hop in Chile. Their sophomore effort, Decisión (1999), featured more radical sounds and socially conscious lyrics. It was produced in collaboration with DJ Raff and reached platinum status, selling over 25,000 copies. In 2001, they released Retorno de Misericordia, continuing their exploration of diverse musical styles. They followed this success with Patrón del Vicio in 2002. In 2005, they released Música de Vida, which continued the thematic and musical trends of their previous works. However, internal conflicts led to the departure of Lenwa Dura and Zaturno in 2007. In 2013, the original members reunited for a special performance of Ser Hümano!! at the Festival de Viña del Mar 2014. Despite another split in 2019, the group has continued to make music and perform under different configurations. After a legal battle over the rights to the band's name, Juan Sativo retained the rights, but Lenwa Dura and Zaturno have continued to release music under the Tiro de Gracia name.
