Biography

Classically trained tenor and multi-linguist Erkan Aki was born in Switzerland to Turkish parents. His love of music began at an early age but it was when he was 17 that he went to see a performance of Strauss's opera 'Die Fledermaus' and decided to become a professional singer. He trained with Paul Spärti in Switzerland whilst also completing a business studies course. He moved to Istanbul for a few years in 1993, and then returned to Switzerland to study at the Zurich University of Music. His debut album 'Here's to the Heroes' was released in 1999 and was a success in Germany, reaching number 37 in the German Albums Chart. His second album 'Pop Classics' (2000) was a series of cover versions. For his third album he released an album of German songs titled 'Zeit der Grossen Gefühle' (2001). This included several duets with a variety of singers like Xavier Naidoo and Patricia Kaas and the popular hit 'Unter der Haut' (1999) with Patricia Kaas which was used as the theme tune for the TV Drama 'Sturmzeit'. In 2002, Aki released the album 'Songs for Lovers' which consisted of a variety of cover versions of pop songs and duets with Inessa and Montserrat Marti. 'Music in My Heart' was released in 2005 and was also a series of pop cover versions. Aki's next album was 'Romantische Weihnachten' in 2008. Although most of the tracks on this album were German classical songs associated with Christmas, it also included the Italian aria 'Non Ti Lascio Mai' and Bach/Gounod's version of 'Ave Maria'. Also in 2008 he released the album 'In Love for Europe' on which he sang songs in six different languages. This was followed in 2009 by the album 'Only the Hits' and in 2012 by 'True Love'. In 2013 Aki took part in Sarah Brightman's world tour.
