Biography
Edith Einzinger, née Zuser, known professionally as Lolita, was born on January 17, 1931, in St. Pölten, Austria. She began her career as a singer, performing at local events and gaining initial recognition when she replaced the sick Gerhard Wendland during an entertainment evening in 1956. Following successful trial recordings at ORF-Landesstudio Linz, Lolita dedicated herself fully to her singing career. Her breakthrough came with "WeiÃer Holunder" in 1957, which was featured in a film of the same name, and her follow-up single Der weiÃe Mond by Maratonga reached number 2 on the German hit parade that year. In 1960, she achieved international success with "Seemann (deine Heimat ist das Meer)", reaching number 2 in Germany and number 5 in the United States under the title "Sailor". This song sold over one million copies in Germany alone, earning her a platinum record from her label. Throughout her career, Lolita released numerous singles including Cowboy Jimmy Joe (Die Sterne Der Prarie) and La Luna, and collaborated with various artists such as Jörg Maria Berg and Jimmy Makulis. She also ventured into acting and television hosting, moderating shows like "Im Krug zum grünen Kranze" on Saarländischer Rundfunk from 1967 onwards. Lolita passed away on July 1, 2010, in Salzburg, leaving behind a legacy of over 20 million records sold.
