Biography

Dan Mangan is a Juno Award-winning songwriter, film score composer, and music entrepreneur from Smithers, British Columbia, where he born on April 28, 1983. His debut EP, All At Once, was released in 2003, when Mangan was just 20 years old. Postcards & Daydreaming followed in 2005 and steadily gained traction, with album eventually being reissued by the indie label File Under: Music in Canada as well as the major-label conglomerate ABC/Warner in Australia. 2009's Nice, Nice, Very Nice was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and helped Mangan earn the title of "Artist of the Year" from the Verge Music Awards. The record also won three Western Canadian Music Awards, including "Independent Album Of The Year" and "Roots/Solo Album Of The Year." The accolades continued with Mangan's next album, Oh Fortune, which was released in 2011, reached number 9 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart, and won "Alternative Album of the Year" at the 2012 Juno Awards. Mangan was named "New Artist of the Year" at the same awards show. Albums like 2015's Club Meds, 2018's Juno-nominated More or Less, 2020's Thief, and 2022's Juno-nominated Being Somewhere followed, with each release exploring Mangan's combination of folk and indie-rock textures. Being Somewhere was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize in 2023, the same year that Mangan released the summertime single "Say When," which reached number 45 on Billboard's Top 100 Rock Songs chart in Canada.
