Ekkehard Ehlers is a German musician, DJ, and sound artist born in 1974 in Frankfurt am Main. He initially studied philosophy before transitioning to music production. Between 1999 and 2002, Ehlers composed ballet music for choreographer William Forsythe. He released his debut studio album, Betrieb (2000), through the label Mille Plateaux. His recording career includes a series of extended plays titled Plays (2001â2002), which pay homage to artists including Albert Ayler, Robert Johnson, and John Cassavetes. These recordings were issued as the compilation Plays (2002), featuring liner notes by Diedrich Diederichsen and Thomas Meinecke. Ehlers has established collaborative projects including Autopoieses and März, the latter releasing the studio recording Love Streams (2002). He has taught at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar and the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart. Ehlers resides in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin.
