Gerald Edward Montgomery, known as Eddie Montgomery, was born on September 30, 1963, in Danville, Kentucky. He started playing drums at age 13 in his parents' band. In 1990, he formed Early Tymz with his brother John Michael Montgomery and Troy Gentry. After disbanding, Montgomery and Gentry reunited to form Montgomery Gentry, signing with Columbia Records' Nashville division in 1999. Their debut single "Hillbilly Shoes" peaked at Number 13 on the Billboard country charts, leading to the release of their first album Tattoos & Scars. Notable songs include "Lonely and Gone", which reached Number 5. The duo won several awards, including Vocal Duo of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards in 2000. They released five more studio albums with Columbia Records before Troy Gentry died in a helicopter crash on September 8, 2017. Montgomery continued to tour under the Montgomery Gentry name and pursued a solo career.
