John Michael Montgomery, born on 20 January 1965 in Danville, Kentucky, is an American country music artist. He started his musical journey with his brother Eddie Montgomery, later of Montgomery Gentry, emboldened by their father, who played in a local country band. He signed with Atlantic Records, and his debut album Life's A Dance was released in 1992. His breakthrough came with "I Love The Way You Love Me", which reached number one in the country charts and was named Single of the Year by the Academy of Country Music. Subsequent albums Kickin' It Up (1994) and John Michael Montgomery (1995) achieved multi-platinum status, featuring hits like "I Swear" and "Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)". Later that year, he took a hiatus after injuring his vocal cord, but returned with What I Do The Best in 1996. His final album with Warner Bros., Letters From Home, was released in 2004. The Time Flies album came out in 2008. He carried on performing live into the 2020s.
