Biography
Eartheater is the solo project of Alexandra Drewchin, a vocalist, producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist born on March 16, 1989, in northeastern Pennsylvania. Before concentrating on her own material, she performed as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist with the psychedelic group Guardian Alien. Her first two full-length releases, Metalepsis and RIP Chrysalis, both appeared through Hausu Mountain in 2015, combining folk-based guitar writing, layered vocals, ambient passages and electronic processing. After signing with PAN, Eartheater released Irisiri in 2018, with guest appearances from Moor Mother and Odwalla1221; the record was included in Pitchforkâs selection of the yearâs best experimental albums. In 2019, she issued the club-oriented mixtape Trinity through her Chemical X imprint and joined LEYA for the collaborative EP Angel Lust. She followed these projects with Phoenix: Flames Are Dew Upon My Skin in 2020, an album largely written during a ten-week residency in Zaragoza, Spain, and expanded it with Phoenix: La Petite Mort Ãdition in 2021. Eartheater later executive-produced Lolaholâs 2022 debut EP, Go, and co-produced its single âLock&Key.â Her 2023 album Powders, recorded largely at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, moved toward more direct art-pop structures and included a reworking of System of a Downâs âChop Suey!â In 2024, she appeared with John Glacier on âMoney Shows,â while 2025 brought the Shygirl collaborations âShark Brainâ and âDolphin,â an appearance on FKA twigsâ âStriptease,â and â8,â released to mark the tenth anniversary of her first two albums. Written after the birth of her daughter, Heavenly Body: If Iâm the Bottle Youâre the Message followed in 2026 through Chemical X, with Dave Sitek involved in production, Oklou featured on âFast Asleep,â and Nosaj Thing and Michael Andrews contributing to âNova.â
