Quiet Light is the recording project of Texas-raised electronic folk artist Riya Mahesh, whose music blends ambient textures, intimate songwriting, and dreamy indie-pop experimentation into what she describes as âmusic that feels like soft light.â Raised in Austinâs thriving band scene before moving to Boston to pursue medical school at UMass, Riya balances two seemingly opposite worlds with remarkable ease, embracing what she calls being ânormalâ while creating emotionally immersive music that feels anything but ordinary. Named after a song from The Nationalâs 2019 album I Am Easy to Find, Quiet Light draws inspiration from both delicate folk songwriting and boundary-pushing electronic production. Riya describes her ideal sound as âCharli XCX-ing a Gillian Welch song,â merging acoustic intimacy with shimmering synth landscapes and experimental pop instincts. After gaining indie attention through her Bandcamp ambient release Blue Angel Sparkling Silver (2023), which layered atmospheric production beneath candid voice memo recordings, Quiet Light expanded into richer lyricism and synth-driven arrangements on the EP Contact (2024). Supported by Spotifyâs Fresh Finds Experimental playlist and performances alongside artists like Superfan, Hovvdy, and Luna Li, Quiet Light continues to emerge as a compelling new voice in indie electronic folk. Her track, âYou Say I Love You,â(2026) captures the projectâs signature floating warmth, emotional honesty, and luminous sonic detail.
