Biography
Drinking Electricity was a Scottish post-punk and synthpop trio from Edinburgh, active during the early 1980s. The group consisted of Anne-Marie Heighway on vocals, David Rome on guitar and vocals, and Paul Edgley on bass. Rome had previously worked with Martin Lloyd in the band Analysis, which later evolved into Oppenheimer Analysis. Their first two singles were cover versions: "Shaking All Over" (1980) by Johnny Kidd and "Shake Some Action" (1980) by The Flamin' Groovies. A third single, "Cruising Missiles" (1980), was an original composition. After releasing these singles on Pop: Aural, Heighway and Rome established their own label, Survival. Drinking Electricity released their debut album Overload (1982), but received mixed reviews. They disbanded later that year after two more singles. Despite their short lifespan, the track "Good Times (Dance Mix)" was sampled by Crystal Castles on the song "Good Time" from their eponymous debut album in 2008.
