Dive Dive was formed in Oxford, England in 2001 by guitaristâvocalist Jamie Stuart, guitaristâvocalist Ben Lloyd, drummerâvocalist Nigel Powell and bassist Tarrant Anderson, all of whom had previously played in Unbelievable Truth, Dustball and other local bands. The group first attracted attention with the instrumental track "The Crock" on the 2002 Juggernaught Records EP When I Wank On My Guitar The Whole World Wanks With Me, followed by the 2003 single "Name & Number" on Vacuous Pop Records, which helped secure a recording contract with Londonâbased Diablo Records. Their debut album Tilting At Windmills was released in June 2005, supported by singles "Good Show", "555 For Filmstars" (UK Indie Number Six, UK Chart Number FortyâEight), and "The Sorry Suitor" (UK Indie Number Ten, UK Chart Number FiftyâFour), and the band toured with Rideâs Loz Colbert and Radioheadâs Philip Selway. In 2006, Ben Lloyd, Nigel Powell and Tarrant Anderson joined Frank Turnerâs studio band for "Campfire Punkrock," and in 2007 they released Revenge Of The Mechanical Dog on Land Speed Records. After a sparse touring schedule due to Turner commitments, Dive Dive recorded Potential in 2010, released on Xtra Mile Recordings in January 2011, preceded by the single "Liar" in December 2010. The bandâs later work includes the 2019 album The Waves Behind, continuing their contribution to the UK alternative rock scene.
