Biography

British rock band, Lush, formed in London in 1987 by Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson, who met at Queen's College and initially played in separate bands before forming Baby Machines with Meriel Barham. After renaming the band Lush and signing with the independent label 4AD, they released their debut EP Scar in October 1989, produced by John Fryer of This Mortal Coil. The following year, Lush gained attention with releases like "Sweetness and Light" and signed with Warner/Reprise Records for US distribution. Their first album, Spooky, reached number 7 in the UK in 1992 and sold over 120,000 copies in the US. The band toured extensively, including appearances at Lollapalooza II alongside acts such as Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers. In 1994, they released their second album Split, which, despite critical acclaim, did not match the commercial success of its predecessor. The band's third album, Lovelife, was released in 1996 and featured the single "Ciao!" with Jarvis Cocker of Pulp. Following a US tour, drummer Chris Acland passed away, leading to the group's disbandment in 1998. Lush reunited in 2015 and released the EP Blind Spot, accompanied by a music video for "Out of Control". They embarked on a European and American tour but disbanded again later that year after Phil King's departure.
