Biography
Cud, a British indie rock band, formed in Leeds in 1987. The original lineup included vocalist Carl Puttnam, guitarist/keyboardist Mike Dunphy, bassist William Potter, and drummer Steve Goodwin. Their first recording was a Peel Session in June 1987, followed by their debut single "Mind the Gap" on Reception Records. In 1988, they released two further EPs on Nightshift and Ediesta Records. By 1989, Cud had signed with Imaginary Records and began releasing albums like When in Rome Kill Me and Leggy Mambo. Their move to A&M Records in 1991 brought chart success with singles "Rich and Strange" (reaching number 24) and "Purple Love Balloon" (number 27), as well as the album Asquarius, which peaked at number 30 on the UK Albums Chart. Despite further top 40 hits like "Neurotica", the band disbanded in early 1995. Carl Puttnam briefly returned to music with a solo release, Donkey With a Fez On (2001). Cud reunited in 2006 for a greatest hits album, Rich and Strange - The Anthology, and have continued touring intermittently since then, including notable performances at festivals like Shiiine On Weekender.
