Biography
David Michael Rodigan is a British radio DJ and actor. Rodigan was born on a military base in Hanover, West Germany. A passion for Jamaican music began at age 13 after Rodigan saw Millie Small perform âMy Boy Lollipopâ (1964) on television. By 15, Rodigan performed as a DJ at school dances and youth clubs. In 1978, Rodigan obtained a job on Radio London, alternating on the âReggae Rockersâ (1978) programme. A year later, Rodigan moved to Capital Radio to present âRoots Rockersâ (1979), which ran for 11 years. Rodigan won World Clash 2012 and was inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame in 2006. Rodigan was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2012 and received the Order of Distinction in 2020 for the promotion of Jamaican music.
