Cryptic Shift, an English thrash/death/progressive metal band from Leeds, West Yorkshire, was formed in 2013 by guitarist Xander Bradley, drummer Ryan Sheperson, vocalist Rob Castle, and bassist Hokumu Blitzkreig. The group released their debut demo tape Old Chapel Demos in 2014. Shortly after, Rob Castle departed, leading to Xander Bradley taking on vocal duties and the addition of guitarist Henry Parker. In 2015, they released Beyond the Celestial Demo, followed by a split EP with Beastial Invasion and the single "Deathcrusher" (2015). Cryptic Shift's debut full-length album, Visitations from Enceladus, was released on May 4, 2020, through Blood Harvest Records. The album received critical acclaim, being named the 13th Best Metal Album of 2020 by Metal Hammer. In 2026, Cryptic Shift released their 78-minute-long sophomore album Overspace & Supertime, featuring two death metal suites, âStratocumulus Evergoalâ and âOverspace & Overtime.â
