Cornel Ronald West, born on June 2, 1953, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is an American philosopher, theologian, political activist, politician, social critic, and public intellectual. As a teenager, he was involved in civil rights demonstrations and organized protests demanding Black studies courses at his high school. West releasead his debut album, Sketches Of My Culture, in 2001. He followed this with Never Forget: A Journey Of Revelations in 2007, and the single "Stand Up Now / Organise And Mobilise" in 2012. West's music reflected his philosophical and political views, blending rap with spoken word elements.
