Cloudmachine was a Dutch indie rock band founded in 2003 by Ruud Houweling, who served as the lead vocalist and guitarist. The group originated from Haarlem, Netherlands. Houweling began his music career in the early 1990s under the name Biscuit, releasing two singles with Columbia Records before forming Cloudmachine. Their debut album, Sweater for the Cold World, was released in 2003, followed by their second album, Hum of Life, in 2006. Mike Coolen joined as a drummer in 2009. Their final album, A Gentle Sting, released in 2013, won the award for Best Indie/Alternative Rock Album at the 13th Independent Music Awards. The band opened for international acts such as The Veils and Brett Anderson before disbanding in December 2014.
