Charles William Prophet, born June 28, 1963 in Whittier, California, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He started his career in the 1980s with the psychedelic/desert rock group Green on Red, releasing one EP and eight albums before going solo. Prophet's first solo album Brother Aldo was released in 1990 but not widely available in the U.S. until 1997. He signed with New West Records in 2002, releasing No Other Love, which featured the single "Summertime Thing" and gained him significant attention stateside. Prophet's subsequent album Soap and Water (2007) received critical acclaim and included appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman. He has collaborated extensively, notably with Kelly Willis on her 2007 album Translated from Love, and Alejandro Escovedo on Real Animal (2008). Prophet's work includes the politically charged ¡Let Freedom Ring! (2009) and the San Francisco tribute Temple Beautiful (2012), both released under Yep Roc Records.
